On the first of January 2002 the German currency Deutsche Mark was replaced by the Euro. Seven years later, over 13 billion (13 thousand million) Deutsche Mark are still “out there” – around 7 billion Euro.

Last year, around 160 million Deutsche Mark were handed in, which is only around 1.23% of all the Deutsche Mark circulating. Another interesting fact is that in contrast to other countries there is no deadline for changing Deutsche Mark into Euros.

• When you travel via airplane, there’s a chance 1.6% to lose your baggage.
• Try to avoid connecting flights. Your luggage will not be transferred successfully in over 40% of the flights.
• If you happen to lose your luggage (1.6%, as mentioned above), the chance of never ever seeing it again is 15% (adding up to a chance of 0.24% of losing your luggage completely).
• If that happens, and you are lucky, you’ll get reimbursed up to the sum of 1.100€.

Das deutsche Wort Freiheit kommt etymologisch von fri-hals – einen freien Hals haben, also nicht angekettet sein. Ich habe es unter anderem in einem gotischen Lexikon gefunden, es stammt sehr wahrscheinlich aus dem Germanischen.

“Deep Throat” was the nickname of William Mark Felt, Sr. (August 17, 1913 – December 18, 2008), who was an agent of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and retired in 1973 as the Bureau’s Associate Director. After thirty years of denying his involvement with reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Felt revealed himself on May 31, 2005 to be the Watergate scandal whistleblower “Deep Throat”.

Neurootologie ist das medizinische Spezialgebiet von der gesunden und der krankhaft gestörten Funktion der Kopfsinne, das im Jahr 1970 von Prof. Dr. Claus-Frenz Claussen an der Freien Universität Berlin begründet wurde.

In Griechenland gibt es ein Gesetz, dass Universitäten zu autonomen Gebieten erklärt, die die Polizei nicht betreten darf – wie das konkret aussieht, kann ich leider nicht sagen.
Fest steht allerdings, dass dieses Gesetz auf den 17. November 1973, den sogenannten Polytechnion-Tag zurückgeht, an dem sich linke/oppositionelle Studenten in der Polytechnion-Universität verschanzt hatten, nachdem sie massive Kritik an der herrschenden Militärjunta geübt hatten. Das Regime ist mit Panzern in die Universität vorgedrungen und hat viele Studenten getötet.
Es gibt alle paar Jahre Versuche, das Gesetz abzuschaffen, die linke Szene in Griechenland mobilisiert dann allerdings immer ganz massiv, so dass es bis jetzt noch nicht zur Abschaffung kam.
