It seems this is not a Darwin quote. It seems to appear in many places, but cannot be found in his work.
Some say it’s by Clarence Darrow in Improving the Quality of Life for the Black Elderly: Challenges and Opportunities : Hearing before the Select Committee on Aging, House of Representatives, One Hundredth Congress, first session, September 25, 1987 (1988)

Yep, you are right. I found the quotation in an article, without reference, which made me wonder (science article without reference?). Trying to find the source, I usually found the information that this quote is commonly “attributed” to C. Darwin.
I decided to post it as Darwin quote nonetheless – it fits his ideas very well.
