Quite some time ago several people started referring to me as “bear”.
It’s quite closely connected to “beard”, you see – at least if you look at the words from a distance, with eyes nearly closed. I do like beards. This morning my beard was over 3 months old. And it looked fantastic.
I know now how it must feel to lose a child.
Don’t ask me why, because I do not know. But I shaved my beard today. It feels terrible. I feel miserable and depressed.
And with my beard I feel that I have lost my bear identity as well.
“There is beauty in despair.”
I can assure you: no, there is not. No beauty. Especially not in the mirror!
Anyway, I went to a concert today, that’s what I actually wanted to say. And on stage was a great musician and singer with the name David Hope.
This here is David Hope.

He’s quite the bear himself, as you have probably noticed yourself. When I told him exactly that after the concert, he laughed and said to me that he was actually still working on his hibernating techniques.
At home I unwrapped the David Hope CD I bought – he had signed it with:
To Eiko.
Be the Bear!
David Hope
(I want to use this opportunity to say greetings to Australian-Tim-the-bear-I-only-know-from-photographs, I was thinking of you writing this)

Sigh, I once told you bearded guys look a lot better. But you had to learn the hard way.
But don’t worry, your beard will grow back.
