The first two episodes of the fourth (and final) season of Battlestar Galactica (a remake of the original Battlestar Galactica 1978 TV series) aired within the last 2 weeks, and although I enjoyed the first three seasons a lot (see my German review from the 16th of May 2005), I didn’t really take very much delight in the latest episodes.
Basti linked to a guardian comment on his blog three days ago, and I’ve yet to see a funnier review, it’s incredibly well written and simply freaking hilarious; I’m pretty sure it’s worth reading even if you have no clue about BSG.

I was fascinated by season one, I loved the first half of season two (Pegasus!), but then the downfall began. With a few exceptions, the whole New Caprica thing didn’t make sense both story arc-wise and regarding the screenplay.
I hope that season four can make up for what was lost…

I agree – the internal Cylon conflict (indicated in episode 2 of season 4) gets my hopes up a bit, but other than that (and awesome FX sequences) it’s just the same old story since the middle of episode 3:
- the president has cancer (again)
- main characters have sex with other main characters, although most of them actually have a partner
- the Old Man and Madam President make wrong decisions after changing their minds a dozen times
- Kara and the Colonel Tigh fuck up again and again and again, they don’t learn anything from their mistakes, and neither do others (and kill/remove them or at least stop trusting them)
- half the ship is a Cylon and was from the beginning
We shall see …

You have such a negative approach. Look at Baltar, for instance. He has changed since the beginning! I know, because I recently re-watched the pilot.
And the rest of the characters have gone through a transformation: Apollo has finally stepped out of his father’s shadow and become Lee Adama, and Starbuck has left behind her nihilistic attitude and started caring about something (first the child, now Earth).
Roslyn and Bill Adama have cooled down both their relationsship and their struggle for power, and thus made room for cold-hearted decisions that stem from their weariness rather than their good judgment.
And isn’t it fascinating how well the four Galactica-Cylon models have coped with their realization that they’re Cylons?

To some degree, you are actually right – and the third episode completely rocked :). Let’s see how it goes from there, a lot of changes to come!
