firefly & serenity

all posts, english, reviews: video Add comments

Although the series “Firefly” is better, the movie “Serenity” (which was made in order to earn enough money to keep the series going) is simply great. And in case you haven’t seen the movie or the series yet, I put some work into convincing you …

—

A little spaceship, entering the atmosphere of a planet. Suddenly, something explodes, a little part falls off the ship.

Meanwhile, on the bridge of the ship; turbulences, chaos, alarm sounds, all characters more or less scream the whole scene.

Wash [flying the ship]: “What was that? Did you see that?”

Captain: “Was that the primary buffer panel?”

Wash: “It did seem to resemble…”

Captain: “Did the primary buffer panel just fall off my gorramn ship for no apparent reason?”

Wash: “Looks like.”

Captain: “I thought Kaylee checked the entry couplings. I’ve a clear memory of it.”

Wash: “If she doesn’t get us extra flow from the engine room to offset the burn-through this landing is gonna get pretty interesting.”

Captain: “Define ‘interesting’.”

Wash: “Oh, God, we’re all gonna die?”

Captain, into a microphone connected to the speakers of the ship: “This is the captain. We have a little problem … with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence… and then explode … Wash, can you shave the vector?”

Wash: “I’m doing it!”

Captain: “It’s not enough. Just get us on the ground!”

Wash: “… that part will happen pretty definitely.”

Jayne comes out of his cabin.

Jayne: “We’re gonna explode? I don’t wanna explode.”

Captain: “Jayne, how many weapons you plan on taking? You only got two arms.“

Jayne: “I just get excitable as to choice. Like to have my options open.”

Captain: ”I don’t plan on any shooting taking place during this job.”

Jayne: “What you plan and what takes place ain’t ever exactly been similar.”

Captain: “No grenades.”

Zoey comes out of her cabin.

Zoey: “We crashing again?”

The Captain walks to the engine room.

Captain: “Kaylee, what in the sphincter of hell are you playing at? We got the primary buffer panel coming right…”

Kaylee: “Everything’s shiny, Captain. Not to fret.”

Captain: “You told me those entry couplings would hold for another week!”

Kaylee : “… that was six months ago, Captain…”

The Doctor comes out of his cabin.

Captain: “Doctor … nothing to be worried about.”

Doctor: “I’m not worried.”

Captain: “Fear is nothing to be ashamed of, Doctor.”

Doctor: “This isn’t fear. This is anger…”

So – genug klug geschissen *g*

War doch richtig mir das Erarbeiten harten Fakten zu ersparen, wenn du sie ohnehin alle im Kopf hast :)

    Danke dafür!

Firefly is simply one of the best three science fiction series I’ve ever watched. How can it be, that after watching five episodes, you love the characters so much that you can actually enjoy a completely mediocre movie like Serenity?

Serenity sums up what should have been the remaining four or so seasons of this series, and it does a bad job in my opinion. You can feel that things go far too fast for Firefly’s usual pace, and taking out much of the banter and niceties among the crew makes the movie feel shallow.

I hate Fox for screwing up that wonderful series – it could have appealed to a lot more people than just the usual sci-fi bunch. And it could have enriched the normally either dark and serious or funny and crappy landscape of television sci-fi.

Well – actually, Fox didn’t want a sci-fi series at all: They just wanted a series with and from Joss Whedon. As soon as they learned that he was about to producing a series in that genre, they did what ever the contract allowed to undermine it. Their goal was to get rid of just another sci-fi thingy that bored people to death – like star trek, andromeda and what’s-it-called did at that time. They just couldn’t imagine that series being different – and so they killed it as soon as possible.
Narrowminded and wrong as it turned out…..but from their point of view maybe understandable.
    But i hate’em ol’ bastards nevertheless ;)
